Once
Upon a Treasure Trunk: Foolish but Fortunate Events!
November 21, 2008–
February 27, 2009
Touring to preschools, kindergartens and 1st grades!
In an ageless world of invention,
laughter and foolishness, lives the clown…a maestro
of emotion and charisma that can tackle the absurd and
the sentimental. In Once Upon a Treasure Trunk: Foolish
but Fortunate Events!, two charming characters prepare
for a birthday celebration in which they encounter humility,
jealously, misunderstandings, generosity and ultimately
learn to share. Their wordless language is one of giggles,
calamity and silliness but their lessons learned resonate
in reality.
Plenty of audience participation
and a treasure trunk full of wit and hilarity in an
intimate environment. These are not circus clowns but
“character” clowns, who carry their world
with them and create it all in your school — using
only invention as their guide.
Curriculum Ties:
perfect introduction to live theatre; drawing conclusions;
social interaction; lessons on topics such as patience,
friendship and responsibility.
Cost: $325
for 75 students; $275 for a second performance at same
site, same day (maximum three performances per day)
Length:
Approximately 45 minutes
Host schools agree to:
* a maximum of 75 total students (preschool through
1st grade only)
*provide a large playing area 20’ x 20’
for the staging area, plus additional room outside this
area for children to sit—a typical classroom will
not accommodate this
* 30 minutes of clear set up time in the space with
no children present
* teachers and chaperones to sit among the children
* no photography during the performance
Today is such a visual age,
especially for children who have information available
at light-speed. Physical theatre presents frame after
frame of images without the use of traditional text
and language, very much challenging children’s
imaginations.” -Heidi Stubblefield, instructor

winning program is highly lauded for its balanced message
to educate teens about the transmission and prevention
of HIV/AIDS and other STIs

Other
outreach programs offered by the Coterie:
Reaching the Write
Minds
Playwriting in your
junior high or high school!
Available throughout the school year
To give a voice to emerging
young writers, the Coterie offers a playwriting seminar
in your school, based on Coterie Artistic Director Jeff
Church’s acclaimed program that originated at
the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Students will learn to create
settings, devise scenarios and build characters.
Upon completion of this seminar with a Coterie professional
playwright/facilitator, young playwrights will have
devised a beginning scenario for a complete play and
will have several fully written scenes. Following this
seminar, participants may be selected to develop their
plays at the Coterie’s Young Playwrights’
Roundtable.
• Available for grades
7-12 only, conducted in your school or another selected
site (often the Westport CoffeeHouse is available at
no additional charge).
• The seminar may be held in one 5 hour session
OR in two sessions, each 2½ hours in length.
• COST: $300 for a maximum of 20 students. A teacher
is required to be present throughout the seminar.
For more information or
to schedule a workshop, contact Annette Filippi, project
coordinator, at 816-474-4241 or annette@4booking.com.
